Look Your Best: Wedding Makeup Trends

Makeup For Weddings

Kathryn Romeyn — senior editor of FOAM magazine and co-founder/editor of Beauty Bender, an online beauty publication — knows a thing or two about how to look your best for your night out.

From lips to nails to not waking up looking like a train wreck the day after a bachelorette party, Romeyn doles out beauty 411 for your bash and gives the lowdown on 2013s hottest trends.

Pick the Right Color for Your Lips

“I’m always a fan of a statement lip, but you need to be careful to keep the rest of your makeup minimal so as to not overdo it,” explains Romeyn.

She likes a daring pink or a deep berry red (a huge red carpet trend). She recommends a rich coral or orange for women with a deeper skin tone; fair complexions steer clear.

Shade Your Eyes With This Season’s Hue

The ‘it’ eye color for 2013 is emerald green. Romeyn predicts we’ll see a lot of this gem-like hue used subtly to line the lower lash or to make a bold statement on the upper lash. She says green is particularly appealing on brown eyes.

Another fun option is colored eyeliner or mascara in navy, eggplant, or burgundy.

Make a Statement With Your Nails

“Nails are my favorite way to accessorize,” says Romeyn. She recommends gathering the girls for some pre-party pampering at the local nail-art salon to get some fun prints, patterns, or hand-painted designs for the night out. If you can’t locate a good salon or if designer nail art is out of your limit, opt for at-home nail decal stickers; some great brands are Essie, L’Oreal, and NCLA.

Color-wise, the big trends for spring are pastels and a liquid-looking metallic rose gold or chrome.

Keep Your Makeup Fresh all Night Long

“To give ultimate lasting power, use a primer for both your face and eye makeup,” suggests Romeyn. She also recommends a setting spray underneath your makeup.

For your lips, always use a lip liner—Romeyn adores Lipstick Queen’s clear liner—and bring your lipstick to reapply throughout the night.

Another tip: “brighten things up as the night goes on and keep your skin looking dewy, not greasy” with a facial spray.

The Morning After

Romeyn can’t stress this tip enough: drink “TONS, like gallons of water” the night of to avoid a beauty disaster in the morning.

If you do hit the bar hard, then treat those dark circles with YSL’s Touche Eclat concealer brush/pen. To soothe the puffiness, look for a product that has the word “cooling” on it, contains caffeine, or has a ceramic or metal rollerball tip; Chantecaille’s Nano Gold Energizing Eye Serum or Estee Lauder’s Idealist Cooling Eye Illuminator are great choices.

Most importantly, “make sure to take off your eye makeup the night before, otherwise you’ll definitely look like a raccoon come morning.”
