Bachelorette Party Ideas
Who says that your final night as a single gal has to be laden with tequila, loud music and crowded bars? If you prefer a more serene celebration, ask your bridal party to plan an “ahhh”-worthy evening of pampering at home. Here are a few do-it-yourself spa bachelorette party ideas for your serene, at-home BASH.
Spa Party Basics
Set the Mood
Turn your home into a spa by injecting a little ambiance into it. Think about what you typically experience at a spa – lots of fragrant, flickering candles; dim, overhead lighting; serene, soothing music; cool colors like blue, green and cream. You don’t need to give your home a fresh coat of paint, but kept the cool color scheme in mind when choosing linens or other décor to set the atmosphere.
When it comes to music, play what you find most relaxing (as long as you don’t consider Lady Gaga to be the pinnacle of calm). Soundtracks of ocean waves or a babbling brook can work, as can soft classical music.
Finally, light some lavender or jasmine-scented candles and place fresh flowers around your home to make it as relaxation-inducing as possible.
Start the Night Right
Here’s an at-home spa bachelorette party idea that will start the night off right – purchase inexpensive washcloths, dampen with water and roll tightly. Layer mint leaves between each towel (or add a drop of peppermint extract) and microwave the towels right before your guests arrive. Present each girl with a steaming towel as she enters so she can wipe off the stress of the day.
Stack some soft, fuzzy towels – both hand-sized and larger — in an easy-to-reach spot so your guests can easily grab one during the party.
DIY Spa Products
There’s no need to splurge on pricey spa facials or hair treatments when everything you need to beautify yourself can be found at your local grocery store: oats, banana, avocado, yogurt, honey, lemons, olive oil, sugar and essential oils. These natural ingredients act as exfoliants, astringents and moisturizers. Tip: choose organic ingredients to avoid consuming or placing harmful chemicals on your skin.
Create a DIY facial bar on your kitchen counter or table by setting out ingredients in clear bowls. Next to each ingredient, set out an empty bowl or glass with a small spoon or Popsicle stick for your guests to mix up their treatments. Don’t forget other tools such as cotton swabs, cotton balls, towels and facial wipes.
Print up product recipes cards — frame them if you like — and place them around the table to help everyone get started. Here are two DIY spa product recipes to try:
Honey-Avocado Hair Treatment
1/3 cup organic avocado, mashed
2 tablespoons raw honey
Mixed ingredients together in a small bowl. Massage the treatment into your hair and leave in for 20 to 30 minutes, and then wash out with shampoo.
Banana Yogurt Face Mask
1 organic banana, mashed
2 tablespoons organic, full-fat yogurt
1 teaspoon raw honey
Mix ingredients together in a small bowl. Apply to the face and let dry completely. Rinse clean.
Spa Party Snacks and Drinks
No party is complete without a bite to eat and a drink in your hand. To keep in line with your health-conscious event, offer an organic snack and “mocktail,” such as this organic roasted red pepper hummus and white virgin sangria.
Organic Roasted Red Pepper Hummus
2 tablespoons organic extra virgin olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
1 to 2 tablespoons Tahini
1-2 cloves of garlic
1 can of organic chickpeas, drained, 1/2 cup liquid reserved
4-6 slices of sun-dried tomatoes, packed in oil
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoons paprika
Combine all ingredients, including a half-cup of the reserved chickpea liquid, in a food processor. Pulse until you’ve reached the desired consistency, adding extra liquid, if necessary.
Serve the hummus with organic cut vegetables and multi-grain crackers. Set out a tray of sliced, organic fruit, as well.
Makes 2 cups of hummus. Dip accordingly.
Organic Virgin White Sangria
3 cups organic white grape juice
1 bottle sparkling apple cider
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 organic apple, cubed
1 cup organic fresh or canned pineapple chunks, juices drained
1 orange, sliced thin
2 drops vanilla extract
Extra fruit for garnish
Combine the juice, fruit and vanilla extract in a large pitcher or punch bowl. Let chill for two hours, and then add the sparkling cider. Serve over ice and extra fruit.
Serves 3 to 4.
The Final Touch
After all that pampering, your guests will feel relaxed and refreshed. But don’t let them leave empty-handed. Give each guest a gift bag full of spa products to take home.
This bachelorette party doesn’t have to be expensive. Purchase a few trial or travel-sized organic products, such as SpaRitual nail polish, Origins skincare, or Alterna hair care, at local beauty stores, major retailers or online, wrap in cellophane and tie with a bow in the bridal colors.
